Hello. I'm a writer of fiction and nonfiction. My most recent book is A SENSE OF THE WORLD: How a Blind Man Became History's Greatest Traveler, now out in paperback from both HarperCollins (US) and Simon & Schuster (UK), on audiobook from Recorded Books, and in downloadable audio form at Audible.com.

My next book--another work of narrative nonfiction--is due out in 2009. I'll soon be posting a special preview here.

LATEST July/August 2008
• I'm co-author of a new book from McSweeney's, entitled Where to Invade Next. Details here.

• For the week of August 3-9, I'll be teaching both fiction and nonfiction as a staff member at the Squaw Valley Community of Writers. For more details and registration information, please see the event website.

• If you're interested in the subject of A Sense of the World, please consider joining The Holman Society. More details here.

• Translations! A Sense of the World is now hitting the shelves in German, Spanish, Portuguese and Korean. I've added them to the editions page.

• My calendar is intentionally sparse these days, as I focus on finishing my next book. But I do have a few music gigs coming up, plus I'm hosting a special reading during the Litquake festival. Check out Events.
